West Linn Pavilion
This small backyard, featuring a significant sloping embankment, required retaining walls to level the space and create a functional pavilion and lawn area, designed for easy access from the house. The design incorporated a poured concrete retaining wall to stabilize the slope, while basalt boulders were used for additional soil retention, reducing the height of the retaining walls. Dry-stack split-face basalt walls were chosen for their natural, rustic aesthetic.
The 20’ x 20’ pavilion was built with tight-knot cedar lumber and glue-lam beams, featuring a stone veneer fireplace, a hip roof with shingles matching the existing home, and a dropped ceiling with groove tight-knot cedar for added warmth. Bluestone paver patio and stepping stones provide a beautiful, functional path across the lawn, completing this stunning backyard retreat.
