A landscape lighting plan enhances the natural beauty of outdoor spaces by accentuating the surrounding planting, hardscape, and architectural elements. Designing a landscape lighting plan involves several key steps:
1.     Lighting Design: Evaluate the client’s expectations for lighting whether it be to highlight specific features and planting, improve safety and security or create ambiance.
2.     Lighting Techniques and Fixture Selection: Select fixtures based on lighting output and functionality such as downlighting, up lighting, spotlighting, or path lighting. Fixtures complement the landscape design and aesthetics is emphasized for high visibility areas.
3.     Lighting Layout: Design a landscape lighting plan (based off the Landscape Plan) that determines the placement of fixtures to achieve the desired lighting effects. Creativity comes into play to display different effects such as moon lighting, shadowing, grazing or silhouette lighting.
4.     Wiring and Power Supply: Plan the wiring layout, ensuring that it is safe, unobtrusive and meets local electrical codes and specifications. Determine how much power supply is needed and where transformer boxes will be located.
